Photographer Anthony Gebrehiwot Gets Creative Amid COVID-19 Pandemic

Anthony Gebrehiwot, popularly known as Tony, has high experience in portraits and photography. With 10 years of experience, Tony has worked with renowned individuals and brands like Nike, Royal Bank of Canada, singer Tobi, and many more.

In his Boys to Men Series, the photography received the 2019 Flash Forward Award from the Magenta Foundation. The arts- publishing house published his talent across the world. Since the pandemic started, Tony has boosted his artwork and produced series of photography workshops for the Toronto youths. Tony confesses that he has managed to remain creative in art during the pandemic thanks to music, visual artists, and lifetime experiences.

Tony’s parents are from Rwanda and Ethiopia and this has helped him learn a lot about cultural heritage and how it impacts his photography and artwork. He acquired different values and inspirations from his parents, which enabled him to grow his talent.

Being raised from different cultures has instilled good and different values on surviving and relating with others. The experiences from other people such as his mum going to Canada from Rwanda as a refugee has inspired him to improve his art and outstood other artists.

With the pandemic, everything, including his artwork, exists virtual. Working closely with well-known mentors such as Che Kothari and d’bi young anitafrika has helped Tony become creative amid the COVID-19 period.
